Two Russian sumo wrestlers and brothers have tested positive for marijuana use two weeks after another Russian wrestler was banned from the sport life after being arrested on suspicion of marijuana possession.
Brothers Roho and Hakurozan tested positive after urine tests were carried out on the sports’ top wrestlers. Additional urine tests for both wrestlers would later confirm the presence of marijuana in their systems.
Roho and Hakurozan were taken in by police soon after the arrest and their living quarters and stable were searched soon thereafter. A stable, by the way, is an organization of sumo wrestlers that train and live together. They don’t actually make those fat guys sleep in horse stables or anything like that.
If no marijuana is actually found among the possessions, neither Roho and Hakrozan will be subject to Japan’s harsh Cannabis Control Law. The positive tests do subject them to possible repercussions from the Japan Sumo Associations, however. And given that smoking reefer could actually be considered a performance enhancing drug in Sumo, where the fatter you are the better, Dark Side expects the JSA to hand down some heavy penalties.
