Georgia head coach Mark Richt has suspended yet another player, linebacker Darius Dewberry, for his role in damaging property at an Athens-area hospital Sunday morning.
The junior was one of several players that accompanied teammates Donavon Baldwin and Marcus Dowtin to the hospital after the two were hit in head with bottles during a brawl outside a downtown Athens bar early Saturday morning. Dewberry was presumably the only player caught by hospital security cameras overturning trash cans and doing other general damage.
Dewberry, who was given a two-game suspension by head coach Mark Richt, has agreed to pay restitution for the damage caused and will begin working a part-time job to help make payments. Dewberry became the sixth Bulldog to be suspended or dismissed in the offseason.
Safety Donovan Baldwin, already serving a suspension for a January DUI, was indefinitely suspended for his role in Saturday morning’s brawl. Snapper Jeff Henson was also suspended indefinitely after being arrested and charged with public intoxication and urination over the weekend.
Dark Side is guessing Georgia fans are just happy that fall practice has finally begun and their boys will be back under adult supervision. Because we’re all pretty sure that if you left the Dawgs to their own devices for a couple more weeks, Richt would have had to start holding open tryouts just to be able to field a team this fall.
